we went to london on friday night for the weekend to play softball.
things didn't start well, when we actually looked on thursday night at our flight times and learned we needed to be in the airport around 5:30pm on friday. mad dash and €12 to the dublin port tunnel later, we made it there in time!
got into gatwick and ran into friends on the train into london! hotel in london was nice and near the train station - met up with everyone and didnt move past hotel bar for the night.
saturday was great - we didn't start playing until 1pm, so nice and relaxed in the morning and got to warm up properly. I hit really well (0.670 if that means anything to you) and ended up being the best hitter on our team (go me!). saturday night, was pub->hotel->indian->pub->sleep
we weren't due to fly until 16:55 on sunday, and the hotel didn't kick you out until 1pm, so a nice relaxed sunday by all. we stopped in victoria for lunch and to watch the match, and then onto gatwick for the flight home.
oh god! chaos! pandaemomium! madness! What do you mean 1" of snow has closed gatwick & heathrow and cancelled our flights! oh crap!
Cue 3 hours of mad panic of getting everyone at home to find us a way home. Noone planned for this and had charged their phones, so the 3 bars of battery quick went for everyone. eventually, we got the 7 of us booked onto the 1st flight of stanstead on monday morning, we got a hotel for the night (4 mins from the airport). So, 3 hour bus trip across london had us in the hotel for 10:30pm. 1 pint and sleep.
up at 4am for ryanair flight home and made it into work for 9:30am, curteousy of another €12 to dublin port tunnel. ouch.
phew! that was a whole lotta work for 3 games of softball! :-)
best hitter of the weekend. me! woot!
was only 9 degrees in london on saturday, so still too cold for new bat, so it stayed wrapped up for the weekend. hopefully, it'll be warm enough for it this weekend.
