broadband increase

Haven't been paying much attention, but on the advice of donal, reloaded my cable modem this evening and I have gone from 3mb to 10mb broadband.

Yay!

hertz

I signed up to hertz's gold club a few months ago, due to the number of trips we'll be doing this year ....

I let password safe generate and 18 character password for me, which the site took when signing up and I booked my car.

Today, I went back to login and make a fresh booking and I couldn't find my userid. They don't mail it out to you. Nor does their site include a "I forgot my login id" button. I rang up, got my login id and was still having problems , so had my password re-issued. It was now a 16 character password, with the last 2 characters dropped off, and because I was including the extra 2 characters, I was getting redirected to the 'your seem to be having problems logging in .... ' page.

Getting my userid should not be hard. And yes, some people do have longer than 16 char passwords.

s3 backups

I finally got back to this project.

I'm now using s3sync to backup my photos into Amazon S3. I'm using the EU buckets. Its slightly more expensive, but with S3 <1ms away from my server, it makes sense.

I've also grabbed cockpit to manage my bucket via a GUI as well.

All done now , and at least my pictures are now safely stored in the cloud. w00t.

heating

good news: the weather has been lovely over the past few days

bad news: It looks like the heating is still blasting away in our new office, and thanks to the lovely lovely area we work in, you don't appear to be able to open a window here.

If you come visit, bring a gas mask.

flyers

well that was easy. We retained the flyers tournament trophy on saturday.

7 games. For: 100+. Against: 15.

We won the final 18-0.

Was a fun day, but getting there at 8:45am and not leaving until 7:30pm, meant a tired body on saturday night.

24GB of music and I appear to have lost the ability to choose music to match my mood. Wheather, giddy/happy/excited/other, i can't seem to find anything in the past few weeks that I feel like listening to.

most bizarre.

softball

Week 2 of the league (was last week) and again another loss. Of course, losing to the team who have won the league for the past 3 seasons and finished 2nd in europe, is no real shame. 20-13 was the final score. They just scored 1 or 2 more runs each inning than us. But, we were competitive and pushed them all the way. And we actually hit. So, much improved.

Cup week this week.

blackberry

I have a blackberry on trial for a month. First impressions after a week..

*. The menu system is clunky. Probably because I'm a nokia retard

*. I only have specific work emails coming to it, not all of them! So, i'm not constantly being flooded with beeps

*. I've installed the facebook app on it

*. The blackberry messanger is cool but can be slow to send updates through.

*. I'm very very slow typing messages with the keyboard.

*. I don't want to give it back.

ironman

Go see it! Robert Downey Jnr. and Jeff Bridges are both excellent and I couldn't think of anyone who could have played the parts better.

Oh, and if you haven't seen it yet, stay until the credits finish! :)

Mario Kart is great fun. Especially on my sister 50" TV.

WiiFit is good, but I suck at the Yoga tree pose. Keep falling over.

we were brutal tonight. 34-1. wow. how bad a score is that. None of us hit. At all.
Bad.

And then liverpool scored on o.g. in the last minute to give chelsea an away goal.

Sad dave.

weekend in london

we went to london on friday night for the weekend to play softball.

things didn't start well, when we actually looked on thursday night at our flight times and learned we needed to be in the airport around 5:30pm on friday. mad dash and €12 to the dublin port tunnel later, we made it there in time!

got into gatwick and ran into friends on the train into london! hotel in london was nice and near the train station - met up with everyone and didnt move past hotel bar for the night.

saturday was great - we didn't start playing until 1pm, so nice and relaxed in the morning and got to warm up properly. I hit really well (0.670 if that means anything to you) and ended up being the best hitter on our team (go me!). saturday night, was pub->hotel->indian->pub->sleep

we weren't due to fly until 16:55 on sunday, and the hotel didn't kick you out until 1pm, so a nice relaxed sunday by all. we stopped in victoria for lunch and to watch the match, and then onto gatwick for the flight home.

oh god! chaos! pandaemomium! madness! What do you mean 1" of snow has closed gatwick & heathrow and cancelled our flights! oh crap!

Cue 3 hours of mad panic of getting everyone at home to find us a way home. Noone planned for this and had charged their phones, so the 3 bars of battery quick went for everyone. eventually, we got the 7 of us booked onto the 1st flight of stanstead on monday morning, we got a hotel for the night (4 mins from the airport). So, 3 hour bus trip across london had us in the hotel for 10:30pm. 1 pint and sleep.

up at 4am for ryanair flight home and made it into work for 9:30am, curteousy of another €12 to dublin port tunnel. ouch.

phew! that was a whole lotta work for 3 games of softball! :-)

best hitter of the weekend. me! woot!
was only 9 degrees in london on saturday, so still too cold for new bat, so it stayed wrapped up for the weekend. hopefully, it'll be warm enough for it this weekend.
